Gluten Free- where to shop?
So you’ve decided to go gluten free, but all the health shops are super expensive and you’re on a budget. Worry not, my dear friend, for I have the solutions for you!
The first thing you’re going to look for are your everyday essentials. After years of trying out different options here are some of my favourite gluten free options and where to buy them.
The best gluten free bread I have tried so far is the Woolworths Food Gluten free bread which is on the pricey side, but is completely worth it!
The bread comes in a few options such as brown, white and seeded.
Selected stores also provide gluten free burger and garlic rolls.
A cheaper option of both bread and rolls can be purchased at Pick n Pay but when it comes to quality I personally prefer Woolworths.
Woolworths also provides a wide selection of cakes and other yummy goodies- however the price you pay is pretty steep compared to the amount of product you get.
When it comes to junk food we prefer to shop at Checkers as well as Spar which usually have cheaper and still delicious luxury items on sale.
Stores such as Clicks, Dischem, Checkers and Pick n Pay also sell Gluten Free flours such as; All Purpose flour, Self-rising flour, cake flour, etc. for someone who is seeking good quality as well as budget friendly gluten flour substitutes.
Some key brands to look out for at any grocery store are:
Health Connection Whole Foods
Small tip to help you get through the gluten cravings:
A lot of the time your favourite comfort food is naturally gluten free. If you’re ever unsure, check the ingredients! If the packaging does not say CONTAINS GLUTEN or MAY CONTAIN GLUTEN then it should be safe to eat and give it a try at your own risk.
